Harding University Chorus

The Harding University Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Cliff Ganus III, will present a program at 7:00 pm on Saturday, January 5 at the Grandview Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa.

The mixed chorus of 55 singers specializes in singing sacred, unaccompanied music, including spirituals, classics and contemporary compositions. When singing outside of churches, their repertoire is expanded, and their annual spring concert often includes extended choral masterworks.

The Chorus makes a number of trips during each school year and has traveled to 43 states. They have appeared in performance with the Memphis Opera and sing regularly with the Arkansas Symphony.

The chorus has made eight extended trips to Europe, presenting concerts in 16 countries. They have performed at such major venues as the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy, and the Chopin monument in Warsaw, Poland. The chorus visited Jamaica in 1993.

They traveled to Australia and New Zealand in the summers of 1996 and 2000, and in the summer of 198 they toured Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Finland.

Ganus is a professor of music at Harding and a 1966 alumnus of the school.

Harding University is located in Searcy, Arkansas, and enrolls more than 5,000 students. Affiliated with the church of Christ, the university emphasizes both scholarship and spiritual development. The school has international campuses in Athens, Greece; Brisbane, Australia; Florence, Italy; London, England; and Viña del Mar, Chile.

Tri State Spring Fellowship - Macomb, Illinois

Speaker: Stanley Shipp
Theme: "Breaking Down The Barriers"

This is a reminder or announcement (depending on who you are) about our upcoming Spring Fellowship. The dates are March 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. In case you are not familiar with this event, it is an annual conference (I guess that's a good word) hosted by the Macomb Church of Christ for all ages, focusing on the Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri areas.

Last year our Spring Fellowship was cancelled due to our speaker Stanley Shipp not being able to make it, due to a death in his family. This year we are planning to have the same program we didn't have last year.

The theme is "Breaking Down The Barriers" and Stanley will once again be scheduled to speak. There will also be a special class on Saturday for teens taught by Kerry Cox of Alton, IL. And as always, Saturday evening we will have our youth event, JMQ, for all Junior High/High School students in attendance. The festivities for the weekend will begin around 7:00, Friday! night and run through Sunday, concluding with a pot- luck at our church after morning worship. All Friday and Saturday events (except for the youth activity) will be held on the campus of Western Illinois University, with Sunday morning services and lunch at the church building. We will have a children's program, book display, and hospitality room, as well as free housing on a first come, first serve basis. I would like to encourage all of you to announce this event to your entire church, and those who are involved with youth groups, please give prayerful consideration to getting a group together. If you have any questions, please e-mail me or call (309) 837-6040 (my home number). You might wait a few days, cause most of you will be receiving a flyer in the mail shortly. Please also call to arrange housing. Thanks for your time and I hope to see many of you in March.

Conducts Campaign

"Can We Know" will be the theme of our campaign. We are fortunate to have students from Bear Valley in Denver to help us again for this our second campaign. This time we are doing things on a larger scale hoping to reach more in the community.

The work will start the week before the campaigners arrive with an issue of the "House to House Heart to Heart" newsletter that we will be sending to residents of the city of Marshalltown. The HTH will give an opening for our campaigners to use when they set up Bible studies. If you are wondering what the HTH is, we have included a copy with our "Update" newsletter. In addition to the "House to House," we will be hanging invitations during the mornings when it is harder to find folks at home. In the evening we will be working at setting up bible studies.

We want to thank all of the congregations in Iowa in advance who are planning to help us in this work for the Lord. We have several that are planning to help us. This is exciting to us and we want to be able to return the favor someday, also.
