Friday, October 18, 2002

Dear Brethren,

It is time to be preparing for our annual Bible Bowl 2003. This is a letter to inform you that we will be co-hosting the Bible Bowl this year with the Hickman congregation. The format will be the same as in the past. It will be hosted at the Hickman Road Church of Christ in Des Moines, on February 15th. This is the Third Saturday in February. If the weather causes us to postpone the Bible Bowl we will hold it the following Saturday, February 22.

This year the text will be taken from the Old Testament. We will be covering the whole book of Esther. There are nine chapters so we should be able to study it in its entirety. Please do not worry about having difficult questions because we would rather have everyone do well and enjoy themselves rather than dread the whole process. There will be four rounds of 25 multiple-choice questions and the categories will be people, places, events and miscellaneous.

Once again we would like to let you have some say in the questions for the Bible Bowl, so if your congregation would like to submit questions, feel free to do so. The deadline for submitting any questions will be February 1, 2003. Also we ask one small favor. Would you please have the questions written legibly or typed? Also would you format them in a multiple-choice form and include alternative choices being reasonable and challenging. Please include the chapter and verse where the questions and answers are taken from. Thank you so much.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. One last favor. The only real expenses we occur by hosting the Bible Bowl that we cannot reclaim are the printing of the ribbons and the food. So if you know approximately how many participating members you will have present please let us know by January 15. We want to make sure we have enough ribbons and food for everyone.

If you know of a congregation that might be interested in participating, please pass on this information. We may have accidentally overlooked someone. Thanks,

IN CHRIST, Steve

March 14-22Mission Mexico - 2003

church of Christ
Davis City, Iowa

Dear Brethren,

This is the time of year to prepare for our March campaign to Mexico. Currently, we are planning on working at Saltillo, which is just south of Monterrey. We will be spending a week helping the brethren build church buildings and adding classrooms to their existing facilities. Lord willing, our work will encourage and assist their evangelistic effort.
The Davis City church of Christ has been involved in this work for the last four years. This year we will be leaving on March 14th and returning March 22nd. The cost to go with us will be $225. This will cover travel expenses and lunch at noon, but you will need extra spending money for personal expenses. Anyone who is interested in going with us is welcome, but you must have your money turned in by March 1st.
We need help with the cost of materials for these projects. The amount we will need is $3000. The church at Davis city has again agreed to give $1200 this year, but will need to raise the remaining $1800. If you can help with any of this amount it would be appreciated.
Other ways you can help would be donations of carpentry tools. Some people in the past have donated items such as pews for the buildings, Spanish Bibles and Spanish songbooks. If you or your congregation can help with any of these items, please contact us.
Anyone interested can contact either Bill Manchester at (641) 442-3145 or by email at wjmgdm@grm.net or Michael Richardson at (641) 783-2446 or by email at rfarm@mtayr.heartland.net.

God's Design from the beginning!

This is your special invitation to glean some precious insight so together we can experience a renewal of God's design for our families. The theme of our fall gospel meeting will be centered on nurturing strong family values.

As we study about God's church family we will have a better appreciation for our personal families as well, because they are to be lived simultaneously. God wants us all to belong to His royal family. God wants to be our heavenly Father and to have Jesus as our older brother. We are allowed to become His children only because He has afforded us this right. We are adopted into God's family through Jesus Christ whom ultimately paid the price. He is the only one who could afford the price. So it is our privilege to be able to call God our heavenly Father. This fall meeting is also our privilege to learn more of God's unconditional love and how He continues to care for us as we live in this world below. Following is just one of many scriptural references to help us have confidence we are called children of God. "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him." Romans 8:16-17, and there are many more scriptures that will help us be up-lifted as we study about God's design from the beginning.
