2005 Calendar of Events Archive
Current Year   Archive of Past Years

Date
Description:
Feb 19

To all fellow Iowa brethren,

The Hickman Road congregation has begun to make plans for the 2005 Iowa Bible Bowl, and we hope you doing the same. The Bible Bowl will take place on February 19, 2004 (weather-permitting) at the Hickman Road church of Christ. If Mother Nature does not cooperate for this initial date, the make-up date will be the following weekend, February 26. Registration will begin at 9 AM and competition will start at 10 AM.

The book and chapters to study for 2005 will be Luke 1 - 12. The questions will be written from the New American Standard Version. There will be four rounds of 20 questions in the following subjects:

  • People

  • Places and dates
  • Numbers
  • Events

At the beginning of each round, substitutions of team members may occur. Once again we will use a timed round of questions to keep the competition moving. After the reading of the question is complete, each contestant must show their answers to the scorekeeper in the next 15 seconds. Once this time expires, if a contestant's answer is not displayed, that person will not get credit for the question.

If you do not feel like competing, but are looking for some great Christian fellowship, we invite you to come and keep score for a team. For those too young to compete during the competition, a nursery will be staffed so parents can compete and fellowship. After the competition is complete, a noon meal will be provided by the wonderful cooks at the Hickman Road church.

After lunch the awards will be presented to all the teams competing in each age group. In addition, individual awards will also be presented to the top three individuals in each age group based on the percent of correct answers. To qualify for the individual award you must answer a minimum of 50 % of the questions. The age groups will be divided as follows:

  • Kindergarten - 6th Grade

  • 7th - 12th Grade
  • Adults

Many of you may be asking why we have selected the book of Luke. Our youth have been competing in the Heart of America (HOA) Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) program for the past three years in Kansas City on the Friday and Saturday before Easter. At the LTC convention, there is a Bible Bowl and Bible Quiz. This year for LTC we are asking our youth to study the entire book of Luke. The HOA LTC provides a study guide (based on the NIV translation) which contains many of the questions used during the LTC Bible Bowl, which can also be used to prepare for the Iowa Bible Bowl. Your congregation can also download this free study guide from the LTC website (http://www.hoaltc.org).

We would like to personally invite each congregation to participate in not only the Iowa Bible Bowl, but also the HOA LTC Bible Bowl. We pray that in studying these chapters from the gospel of Luke that we will broaden our knowledge and insight into our Father and His will for us in our everyday lives.

Please let us know by mail at the above address, by phone at (515) 251-6937, or by email (abeck@aggienetwork.com) how many to expect from your congregation by February 1. Once again, we look forward to seeing you February 19 for another exciting time of fellowship and competition and again on March 25 in Kansas City.

Gig 'em God,
Andy Beck

Sister In Christ,

We had a planning meeting for SIC Day last night. The dates are March 18, 19, 2005, at the Radisson in Sioux Falls (same place as last year). The theme is "Daughters of the King" which of course makes us all princesses. We're having a style show of formerly worn dressy dresses (prom, wedding, etc) including every one who wants to participate. Prizes will be awarded for some of the more unusual! Also, we're encouraging anyone who wants to bring a home made craft item to be given away as door prizes. We have a really good speaker, Robin Martin, from South Twin Church of Christ in Minneapolis, coming to present the lessons. Plan now and share the news!

We'll be mailing out flyers in a couple of weeks but thought you might appreciate a heads up! Please contact me if you have questions and/or need more information and want to be included on the mailing list! trees@sio.midco.net. We're looking forward to another great weekend!!

Serving Him,
SUE TREES
