Bible Bowl - February 16

Our Annual Iowa Bible Bowl is coming up very soon.

The date is February 16th with February 23rd as a snow date.

This year we will be holding the Bible Bowl at the new facility in Marshalltown. The Marshalltown church of Christ (formerly Boone Street church of Christ) is hosting the Bowl along with Hickman Rd.

This year the subject is I & II Peter . We will have three age groups K-6, Teens and Adults. Questions will be taken from the NASV update Come prepared to test your knowledge over these two books.

The building is located at 9 North Fifth Ave. in Marshalltown. It is on the corner of 5 th Ave. and State Streets, or one block north of the main entrance to the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

The scheduled times are registration at 9:00 AM and the Bible Bowl will begin at 10:00 AM. We will have refreshments before the Bowl begins and Dinner will be at 12:00 Noon. There will be child care available .

Come and enjoy the feast of God's Word and the great Christian fellowship.

Feb 22-24 Mike Casey from Ozark, MO will be speaking about " New Eyes " at Evergreen Church of Christ  from February 22-24.

We've all seen people on TV testify that they have tried every diet known to man but still cannot keep the weight off for any length of time? Yet some of these same people later won amazing victories over their weight problems. How? What made the difference? They attest to a paradigm shift in their thinking.

For many believers this is what is needed in order for them to win victories in spiritual growth. Many of us read our Bibles and pray everyday, as the song says, only to find that we do not always "grow...grow...grow".  The problem isn't with reading Scripture or prayer. We need a paradigm shift in our thinking.

This will be the focus of our upcoming seminar.  We will examine what change is, how change occurs, and how our view of God and what He is up to plays a major part in our spiritual growth and maturity.  More specifically we will delve into the reason God created humans, what does he want with us and how he expects to carry His intention through to its glorious conclusion.

Please take the time to look at God and His desire for the ages with new eyes.  We promise you that this will not be anything equivalent to "here's another new diet to try."  We are after a paradigm shift in our thinking.  We want to see God with "new eyes".

Speaking times are:
Friday -        7:00 – 8:30
Saturday -   10:30 - 12:00
1:30 – 3:00

Lunch will be provided (so we may calculate, please let us know if you may come)

Sunday -     9:30 – 10:10 (Bible Class)
10:30 – 11:30 (Services)

There will also be time for questions and answers.

About the speaker:

Mike was born in Long Beach, CA in 1948, but grew up in Oklahoma City.  After going to the University of Texas at El Paso on a football scholarship, he joined the army and went on a tour of duty in Viet Nam.  Returning from army service, he worked for a brief time at Western Electric in OKC before going to Sunset School of Preaching.  Completing the 2 yr. and graduate program, he then married Deborah Goodman (almost 33 years now!) and they went through the Missions program together.

From there they went to Milwaukee, WI to help with the church at Waukesha while taking Serbo-Croatian classes at the University of Wisconsin in preparation for mission work in Yugoslavia.  Mike then worked with the North MacArthur Church of Christ in OKC for 6 mos. while getting to know the congregation as a potential supporter of mission work in Yugoslavia; however, the mission team in Yugoslavia disbanded before they were able to begin work there.  With the change in plans, Mike served as an Evangelism Minister for the church in La Marque, TX for one year.  Encouraged by friends from Wisconsin to begin a mission in their home town, Mike worked with Watters Road Church of Christ in Pasadena, TX for 6 mos. They then sent them to begin the mission church in Oconomowoc, WI where Mike and Deborah stayed for 22 years.  Currently, Mike has been preaching for the Center Point Church of Christ in Rogersville, MO for the past 3 years.

Over the years, Mike has worked in youth ministry, bus ministry, prison ministry, inner-city ministry, campus ministry, state-side campaigns and state-side missions. He has spoken at high schools and given a seminar on Christian evidences. He has also conducted a marriage seminar in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

In addition to his ministries he has a successful carpentry/remodel business, and is the father of 3 and grandfather of 6.
